Women in their seventies who exercise and eat healthy amounts of fruits and vegetables have a longer life expectancy, according to research published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.

Researchers at the University of Michigan and Johns Hopkins University studied 713 women aged 70 to 79 years who took part in the Women's Health and Aging Studies. This study was designed to evaluate the causes and course of physical disability in older women living in the community.

"A number of studies have measured the positive impact of exercise and healthy eating on life expectancy, but what makes this study unique is that we looked at these two factors together," explains lead author, Dr. Emily J Nicklett, from the University of Michigan School of Social Work.

Researchers found that the women who were most physically active and had the highest fruit and vegetable consumption were eight times more likely to survive the five-year follow-up period than the women with the lowest rates.

To estimate the amount of fruits and vegetables the women ate, the researchers measured blood levels of carotenoidsbeneficial plant pigments that the body turns into antioxidants, such as beta-carotene. The more fruits and vegetables consumed, the higher the levels of carotenoids in the bloodstream.

Study participants' physical activity was measured through a questionnaire that asked the amount of time the spent doing various levels of physical activity, which was then converted to the number of calories expended.

The women were then followed up to establish the links between healthy eating, exercise and survival rates.

Key research findings included:

  • More than half of the 713 participants (53%) didn't do any exercise, 21% were moderately active, and the remaining 26% were in the most active group at the study's outset.
  • During the five-year follow up, 11.5% of the participants died. Serum carotenoid levels were 12% higher in the women who survived and total physical activity was more than twice as high.
  • Women in the most active group at baseline had a 71% lower five-year death rate than the women in the least active group.
  • Women in the highest carotenoid group at baseline had a 46% lower five-year death rate than the women in the lowest carotenoid group.
  • When taken together, physical activity levels and total serum carotenoids predicted better survival.

"Given the success in smoking cessation, it is likely that maintenance of a healthy diet and high levels of physical activity will become the strongest predictors of health and longevity. Programs and policies to promote longevity should include interventions to improve nutrition and physical activity in older adults," said Dr. Nicklett.

Michael R. Powers: Insurance in the Middle Kingdom (Without the ...

As the nation with the largest population and second-largest GDP, China is often perceived as a land of vast economic opportunity, where entrepreneurs hawking the latest novelties of high technology operate alongside others peddling the tried-and-true amenities of more mature economies. In the latter category fall the property insurance products -- homeowners, business-owners, and transportation policies -- familiar for generations to those living in North America and Europe, but only now gaining a small foothold in the Middle Kingdom. Many observers of China's insurance market attribute the country's slow reception of these forms of insurance to cultural characteristics that will change as the country evolves. However, it is quite possible that conventional insurance is simply failing to compete against another, very ancient, financing mechanism: risk pooling -- insurance without the middleman.

To evaluate the potential of national insurance markets, analysts frequently employ the metric of "insurance penetration": the ratio of total insurance premiums to total GDP for a given time period. In 2010, China's property-liability insurance premiums constituted only 1.3 percent of GDP, compared to a figure of 4.5 percent for the U.S. Although China's property-liability market is overwhelmingly dominated by domestic companies, even these local insurers appear to anticipate that business will grow as cultural attitudes "modernize." In particular, it is expected that as economic relationships become more sophisticated, individuals and firms will abandon both (1) their traditional reliance on extended-family financial resources and (2) an ingrained fatalism that discourages planning for the perils of fire, wind, earthquake, etc. But what if both of these characteristics are actually more appropriate -- and even more "sophisticated" -- than the use of conventional insurance?

The notion of an insurance policy traces its earliest roots to the use of bottomry contracts in Babylonian society somewhat prior to the introduction of Hammurabi's Code (ca. 1772 B.C.). Under this type of arrangement, a land or marine trader would take out a loan of merchandise or money from a wealthy merchant, agreeing to a high rate of interest (usually at least 100 percent). If all went well, then the principal and interest would be paid at the end of the trading expedition; however, if the merchandise or money were lost or stolen, then the principal and interest would be forgiven. In short, the merchant was compensated for assuming the risk of the trading venture through the large interest payment.

A somewhat different practice developed among marine traders in ancient China (possibly as early as the use of bottomry contracts in the West, although firm dates are difficult to establish). Rather than simply transferring all risk from one party to another, groups of traders formed reciprocal arrangements in which each trader's store of merchandise was subdivided into small equal shares, each of which was carried on a different ship. In that way, no trader would be completely devastated by the sinking of one ship.

What is particularly interesting about these two approaches to financing risk is that each illustrates one of the two distinct characteristics of modern insurance. Specifically, the bottomry contract exemplifies the concept of risk transfer, in which one party cedes responsibility for an uncertain outcome to another party (who receives financial compensation for assuming the risk), whereas the Chinese mariners' arrangement embodies the concept of risk pooling, in which each member of a group cedes responsibility for shares of its own uncertain outcome to the other members of the group (who in turn are permitted to cede similar shares of their own risks). In conventional insurance, the policyholder transfers its risk to the insurance company, which then creates a for-profit pool of many policyholders. This naturally raises the question: What happens if the policyholders prefer to form their own pool, and avoid the costs of the insurance-company middleman?

Essentially, that is what the ancient Chinese mariners did; and perhaps what many Chinese individuals and businesses implicitly do today. Specifically, one could argue that a reliance on family financial resources -- basically the pooling of risks close to home -- is more economical than purchasing insurance. Similarly, one could interpret a fatalistic acceptance of certain risks as the institutionalization of high deductibles, which makes considerable economic sense in the presence of budget constraints and/or high premiums. In short, it seems reasonable to think of Chinese consumers as simply expressing a preference for informal risk-pooling alternatives to conventional insurance; and it is instructive to note that the broad formal use of risk-pooling mechanisms in more developed economies -- through self-insurance, risk-retention groups, and captive insurance -- is only a few decades old.

HBT: No one is untouchable, Epstein says

Is it just me, or do people in Chicago not feel as bad about the recently-ended losing streak and what seems to be the inevitable dreadful remaining season as they might normally be? ?At least among the Cubs fans I know, people are just being cool, knowing that the roster was a mess and knowing that Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer are playing the long game.

And as Patrick Mooney notes in his report at CSNChicago.com, that?s the game being played. Epstein:

?We?ll have to take a realistic look of where we are. And if there are ways to get better, every option has to be on the table ??I?ve always operated under that philosophy,? Epstein said. ?I never understood why there would ever be an untouchable. All you?re doing is limiting your opportunity.?

I guess Starlin Castro would be called untouchable if you put a gun to Theo?s head. But heck, maybe even he goes if some team is dumb enough to back up the prospects truck.

Just a very different mindset from an organization which often talked about rebuilding, but never really went into it whole-hog.

James' 32 lift Heat past Celtics, 93-79

MIAMI (AP) ? A big early Miami lead was wasted. Once the Heat took control again, they simply ran away from the Boston Celtics.

And the NBA finals are now three wins away for LeBron James and the Heat.

James scored 32 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, Dwyane Wade scored 10 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter and the Heat beat the Celtics 93-79 on Monday night in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals.

Shane Battier, playing in the conference finals for the first time, scored 10 points and had 10 rebounds for the Heat, who wasted an early 11-point first-half lead before running away to break a halftime tie. Miami outrebounded the Celtics 48-33, and blocked 11 Boston shots.

It was those last two stats that had James lauding the night as a team effort.

"We get a lot of the press, we get a lot of the headlines," James said. "But our teammates, they do everything to help us win ball games."

Kevin Garnett scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Boston, which got 16 points, nine rebounds and seven assists from Rajon Rondo and 12 points from Paul Pierce. Ray Allen shot just 1 for 7 from the floor for Boston, which was outscored by 10 in the first quarter and 11 in the third.

"On the road, you can't have two quarters of lulls," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said.

Game 2 is Wednesday night in Miami.

It's the third straight year the Heat and Celtics have met in the playoffs, the third straight year James has seen his postseason path go through Boston as well ? the first of those matchups coming in 2010, his final run with Cleveland.

Each of those came in the first or second rounds, not this close to the NBA finals.

And while both sides would say there's a long way to go in this series, Game 1 winners have a decided edge in any best-of-seven, the conference final being no exception. In the most recent 10 postseasons, teams with 1-0 leads in conference finals have advanced 15 out of 20 times. One of the five instances of a team rallying from a one-game deficit was last year, when Miami ousted Chicago in five games.

Last season's Miami-Boston series ended with James scoring the final 10 points of Game 5, and the start of this year's matchup had him putting on another offensive display.

He had 13 points in the first quarter ? two more than the entire Celtics roster ? and Miami ran out to a 21-11 lead after the opening period. Garnett made three of his four shots in the quarter, while everyone else in Boston green was 2 for 16 from the floor.

"They came to play," Rivers said. "I mean Miami."

The 11 points matched the lowest output by any team in the opening quarter this postseason. The other team to manage that few was San Antonio, which then dropped 32 on the Los Angeles Clippers in the second quarter of their game on May 19.

The Celtics' response was even better.

Boston scored 35 in the second quarter, erasing what was an 11-point deficit early in the period by scoring 27 points in the final 8:46 of the half to pull into a 46-all tie. Rondo, Garnett and Pierce combined to score 23 points in the quarter, looking absolutely vintage, near-perfect offensive execution getting to Miami time and time again. And the Celtics' comeback happened even while they got hit with three technical fouls in the second quarter, plus Allen missing four first-half free throws ? matching his career-worst for an entire game.

In the end, it went down as merely a one-quarter lapse for Miami.

Another technical foul, this one on Rondo, came in the third quarter, likely born from frustration as the Heat started to roll again.

With the game tied at 50, Rondo missed three shots in a 31-second span early in the third, the last of those getting blocked by Battier ? who hit a 3-pointer 11 seconds later. It started a 9-2 Miami burst, including a touchdown pass from Wade to James ? Wade grabbed the rebound of a miss by Pierce, spun and delivered a 90-foot pass to the reigning MVP ? for an easy score.

Miami led by as many as 13 late in the third, before taking a 72-61 lead into the fourth. James scored 10 more in the third, Boston went cold again shooting just 27 percent in the period, and Wade's left-handed bullet pass into the lane set up Joel Anthony for a dunk that pushed the Heat lead to 15 with 10:13 remaining.

"We'll go back and see what we can do better," Rivers said. "And we'll fix it."

NOTES: Heat coach Erik Spoelstra is now 6-0 in Game 1s at home. ... James passed Sam Jones (2,909) for 22nd on the NBA's playoff scoring list with a layup late in the first quarter, and Garnett passed Dirk Nowitzki (1,314) for 22nd on the league's postseason rebound list. ... The Heat left the floor at halftime with a 48-46 lead, then had two points by Anthony taken off after a lengthy reviewed showed he had a basket after the shot clock expired. ... Miami F Chris Bosh did a light pregame workout, but still remains out indefinitely with a lower abdominal strain. He was on the Heat bench for the first time in Miami's last six games.

Best Hierarchical, GTD, Ubiquitous To Do List:MyLifeOrganized on iPhone, iPad, Android and Blackberry

To Do list when used with a well honed process daily is a very productive tool. And the people behind MyLifeOrganized (MLO) have been creating their task management app since the Windows Mobile days.

Windows Mobile

Back then, we don?t have things like Getting Things Done methodology to guide us, but MLO have the best task management solution in my opinion.

Windows Mobile allow tree style hierarchical views, so they were able to create a task and subtask concept which was rare in that days.

To supplement that, they have a very well thought out hierarchical to do list which you can tag due dates, notes and contexts. You can sync this with your windows mobile app.

Playing catch up

What MLO did not anticipate was how well the iPhone and iPod took off and herald a wave of to do list apps like the ones on my side bar.

A very good app rest too much on its laurels and miss a ton of good revenue.

About a year ago, I visited MLO?s homepage and realize that they were frantically churning out their solution for each smartphone platform. I anticipate that they really hired a lot of developers on different platforms to execute this because unlike the makers of Wunderlist who are coming up with their own ubiquitous app Wunderkit, MLO managed to deploy beta versions at a really break neck speed.

So how is their offering?

iPhone MLO

The iPhone app costs USD $9.99 which is the price for all the premium To Do list apps such as 2Do and ToDo.

The thing everyone likes about MLO is that they contain the most essential widgets for task management:

  1. Task Description, Notes, Due Date, Status
  2. Repeating or Recurring Tasks
  3. Sub-tasking or parent child concept
  4. Tagging

For the iPhone App, they brought over the hierarchical concept. You can create unlimited levels of subtasks.

What you can do on the windows and windows mobile applications you can do it on the iPhone app.

Most of the reviews are from people that have used the windows version of MLO and the reviews are mixed. To most it?s a godsend to be able to carry out the same way of doing things on the iPhone.

For others they cannot understand the complicated interface and they deemed it as complicated and unstable.

iPad MLO

The iPad version costs USD $19.99. That is steep. It essentially is priced in the range of Omnifocus, which is the one David Allen recommends.

It basically does what the iPhone app does but because iPad has a more affordable screen real estate, it makes a splendid project planning tools.

The great thing is it is similar to that of the iPhone app. Unlimited hierachy, repeating, contexts, places and many many different views for people that does things differently

Android MLO

There isn?t a pricing on the Android version. It is Beta currently but soon it will be selling at USD 9.99. That is bloody steep. [Google Play >>]

Although this is a fully featured BETA version of MyLifeOrganized, some features are still in development. You can use the beta version for free until the final product is released. Once the final version has been released, you will have the choice of continuing to use MyLifeOrganized for free in Lite mode, or purchasing a license key to unlock the full feature set. In either case your data will be preserved after the upgrade. Please use our forum for feedback, since we cannot respond on Android Market.

I am an Android smartphone user currently and MLO have been a god send on the Android.

For one, there isn?t a to do list that provides unlimited subtasking like MLO. There are many apps that syncs to Google Tasks but Google Tasks is very limited. For one you cannot create repeatable tasks.

The example above you can see that I have an ?Area of responsibility? in Work, follow by a short project writing a report.

The most useful thing is that I can order the list by cutting tasks and pasting task in the right order.

Kudos to MLO for providing this.

Having start and end dates are what is required for project management. This would filter out tasks not expected to start soon.

You can also change a task into a project and assign multiple contexts, setting subtasks in order.

You can relate contexts with those that belong within another. Take Office Computer. If you tag something as that it will appear if you filter by Office as well.

MLO provides a lot of interesting options. For each tree of tasks if you complete all the tasks you can have MLO create another repeating tree of subtasks.

For projects that you want to reuse, MLO allows you to reset in two ways.

Overall, you would find the settings to be so flexible even if the work flow doesn?t fit you outright, you can tweak it to your liking.

The Android MLO have so many views! You can start drafting by Outline or Projects then filter by which tasks are active at certain places, people or time duration.

And if you think those are the only views that is available to you, check out more.

MLO also offer widgets that you can embed on your home screen

Overall, the people love it.

Blackberry MLO

By now you would know the Blackberry app is more or less similar to the others. The blackberry version costs USD $14.99. Steep.

But I think it is worth it because there isn?t much GTD application that does unlimited subtasking like MLO on blackberry.

MLO Cloud Sync

How does MLO make it ubiquitous? By getting you to subscribe to a cloud sync service.

This would allow you to sync over the air with each device.

The service cost on an average

  • $25.95 for 2 years
  • $14.95 for 1 year
  • $9.95 for 6 months
  • $5.95 for 3 months
  • $2.95 for 30 days

I have not tried this service but if you subscribe for long $1.25 per month doesn?t sound expensive.

I hope that this would allow me to sync an iPad with an Android smartphone.

Conclusion

MLO have the most comprehensive solution. Back a few months I wrote what is the use cases you need for a task management solution.

  1. Task Description, Notes, Due Date, Status
  2. Repeating or Recurring Tasks
  3. Sub-tasking or parent child concept
  4. Tagging
  5. Extensible API
  6. Ubiquitous

MLO provides all except the extensible API. That way you cannot grow it as a platform.

MLO essentially is a closed network and they force you to subscribe to it, somewhat like Microsoft.

What I find intolerable is that every piece of app cost a lot. If they want to sell this platform to users they would have make it cheaper for the users.

Say you need the Windows app and the iPhone app to sync with each other that will set you back $45.95 + $9.99 + $14.95 = $70.89

That is expensive. And if I believe more so then Omnifocus.

I find the solutions very good, but I just cannot except the price.

Expat medical insurance- dont allow your health to chance ...

Planning on living abroad? Get advice about medical insurance first

As an expat, medical insurance may not be at the forefront of your mind when youre sorting out your new life in the sun. You always want the very best for you and your family, so when it comes to the matter of your health its reassuring to know that should the worst happen, everything is covered. Speaking with an independent financial adviser will ensure that youll have the cover you need, wherever in the world you happen to be.

As an expat medical insurance should be at the forefront of your mind

When illness strikes or an accident happens, you dont want to have the additional worry of wading through mountains of paperwork before being able to seek treatment. Whatever you need to get you back to your old self will be provided; hospital stays will be paid for, operations covered, therapy organised and all in the kind of high quality facilities that youd expect. No matter where you are in the world, youll be getting the exact care you require, without making a potentially dangerous compromise.

Its not just emergency care that can be dealt with under the umbrella of expat medical insurance. If youre feeling a bit off colour and feel the need to visit the doctor, many policies will also cover this your health is important and you should never put off visiting a professional to seek their advice. Having peace of mind and knowing that all this wont come straight out of your pocket takes a lot of stress out of what could already be a worrying situation.

Why should I speak with an independent financial adviser ?

Of course, the question is, what does dealing with an independent financial adviser mean for you? In doing so, youre making sure that youve got the widest range of options available to you and theres no worrying about being pushed into a specific policy simply because it will get them a higher rate of commission. Vatican in chaos after butler arrested for leaks

VATICAN CITY (AP) ? An already sordid scandal over leaked Vatican documents took a Hollywood-like turn Saturday with confirmation that the pope's own butler had been arrested after documents he had no business having were found in his Vatican City apartment.

The detention of butler Paolo Gabriele, one of the few members of the papal household, capped one of the most convulsive weeks in recent Vatican history and threw the Holy See into chaos as it enters a critical phase in its efforts to show the world it's serious about complying with international norms on financial transparency.

The tumult began with the publication last weekend of a book of leaked Vatican documents detailing power struggles, political intrigue and corruption in the highest levels of Catholic Church governance. It peaked with the inglorious ouster on Thursday of the president of the Vatican bank. And it concluded with confirmation Saturday that Pope Benedict XVI's own butler was the alleged mole feeding documents to Italian journalists in an apparent bid to discredit the pontiff's No. 2.

"If you wrote this in fiction you wouldn't believe it," said Carl Anderson, a member of the board of the Vatican bank which contributed to the tumult with its no-confidence vote in its president, Ettore Gotti Tedeschi. "No editor would let you put it in a novel."

The bank, known as the Institute for Religious Works, issued a scathing denunciation of Gotti Tedeschi in a memorandum obtained Saturday by The Associated Press. In it the bank, or IOR by its Italian initials, explained its reasons for ousting Gotti Tedeschi: he routinely missed board meetings, failed to do his job, failed to defend the bank, polarized its personnel and displayed "progressively erratic personal behavior."

Gotti Tedeschi was also accused by the board of leaking documents himself: The memorandum from the Institute for Religious Works, as the bank is known, said he "failed to provide any formal explanation for the dissemination of documents last known" to be in his possession.

In an interview with the AP, Anderson stressed that the latter accusation was independent of the broader "Vatileaks" scandal that has rocked the Vatican for months. But he stressed: "It is not an insignificant issue."

Gotti Tedeschi hasn't commented publicly about his ouster or the reasons behind it, saying he has too much admiration for the pope to do so. He also hasn't been arrested, avoiding the fate that befell Gabriele.

The 46-year-old father of three has been in Vatican detention since Wednesday after Vatican investigators discovered Holy See documents in his apartment. The Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, said Gabriele had met with his lawyers and that the investigation was taking its course through the Vatican's judicial system.

Gabriele, the pope's personal butler since 2006, has often been seen by Benedict's side in public, riding in the front seat of the pope's open-air jeep during Wednesday general audiences or shielding the pontiff from the rain. In private, he is a member of the small papal household that also includes the pontiff's private secretaries and four consecrated women who care for the papal apartment.

Lombardi said Gabriele's detention marked a sad development for all Vatican staff. "Everyone knows him in the Vatican, and there's certainly surprise and pain, and great affection for his beloved family," the spokesman said.

The "Vatileaks" scandal has seriously embarrassed the Vatican at a time when it is trying to show the world financial community that it has turned a page and shed its reputation as a scandal plagued tax haven.

Vatican documents leaked to the press in recent months have undermined that effort, alleging corruption in Vatican finance as well as internal bickering over the Holy See's efforts to comply with international norms to fight money laundering and terror financing.

The Vatican in July will learn if it has complied with the financial transparency criteria of a Council of Europe committee, Moneyval ? a key step in its efforts to get on the so-called "white list" of countries that share financial information to fight tax evasion.

Anderson acknowleged that the events of the last week certainly haven't cast the Holy See in the best light. And he said the bank's board appreciated that the ouster of its president just weeks before the expected Moneyval decision could give the committee pause.

"The board considered that concern and decided that all things considered it was best to take the action at this time," Anderson said. "These steps were taken to increase the IOR's position vis-a-vis Moneyval."

The Vatileaks scandal began in January when Italian journalist Gianluigi Nuzzi broadcast letters from the former No. 2 Vatican administrator to the pope in which he begged not to be transferred for having exposed alleged corruption that cost the Holy See millions of euros in higher contract prices. The prelate, Monsignor Carlo Maria Vigano, is now the Vatican's U.S. ambassador.

Nuzzi, author of "Vatican SpA," a 2009 volume laying out shady dealings of the Vatican bank based on leaked documents, last weekend published "His Holiness," which presented a trove of other documents including personal correspondence to the pope and his secretary ? many of them painting Benedict?s No. 2, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, in a negative light.

Nuzzi has said he was offered the documents by multiple Vatican sources and insisted he didn't pay a cent ? to any of them.

Gabriele was in Vatican custody and unavailable for comment. No known motive has come to light as to why Gabriele, if he is found to be the key mole, might have passed on the documents. Nuzzi declined to comment Saturday on whether Gabriele was among his sources.

Bertone, 77, has been blamed for a series of gaffes and management problems that have plagued Benedict's papacy and, according to the leaked documents, generated a not inconsiderable amount of ill will directed at him from other Vatican officials.

"For some time and in various parts of the church, criticism even by the faithful has been growing about the lack of coordination and confusion that reign at its center," Cardinal Paolo Sardi, the former No. 2 official in the Vatican secretariat of state, wrote to the pope in 2009, according to the letter cited in "His Holiness."

Anderson, who heads the Knights of Columbus, a major U.S. lay Catholic organization, said he was certain the Holy See would weather the storm and that the Vatican bank, at least, could move forward under a new leader with solid banking credentials as well as a desire to show off the bank's transparency.

"I hope this will be the beginning of a new chapter for the IOR and part of that chapter will be restoring the public image of the IOR," he told AP. "I think we have a good story to tell."

The Capital will have its first sunken interpretation centre linking three historic sites ? Humayun?s Tomb, Sundar Nursery and Nizamuddin Basti ? if multiple agencies required to give clearances come together and give the go-ahead for the project.

Interpretation centres, popularly known as site museums that detail the history of a cultural or natural heritage, have been largely missing from the Indian arena. The project, a first of its kind in the country, has been conceptualised and designed by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture.

Report: 7-inch Google tablet coming in July

14 hrs.

Last December, Google chairman Eric Schmidt told an Italian publication that the company would ship an Android-powered tablet "of the highest quality" within the next six months. Now a report suggests that a 7-inch tablet, co-developed by Google and Asus, will be hitting shelves in July.

The report comes from DigiTimes ??a tech industry?site known for vaguely sourced reports which don't always pan out ? so we're taking things with a hefty serving of salt, of course.

But where there's smoke, there's often fire?? and there are certainly several signs pointing to a summer release for the mysterious Google tablet.?NPD DisplaySearch analyst Richard Shim previously told CNET that this mobile device was in the works and that a production run was "slated for April" (which would put a shipping date into the early summer).

There aren't many details about the tablet though. Shim suggested that it "will have a 1280x800 resolution 7-inch display," previous reports explained that it will be priced?between $149 and $249.?

That's about all we know for now. Well, that and the fact that whatever happens, the Google tablet will have an uphill battle trying to?win customers away from the top-selling?iPad, and the current Android leader, Amazon's?Kindle Fire.

Want more tech news, silly puns, or amusing links? You'll get plenty of all three if you keep up with Rosa Golijan, the writer of this post, by following her on?Twitter, subscribing to her?Facebook?posts, or circling her?on?Google+.

AVG Internet Security

Since you?re hear reading this AVG Internet Security review, it tells me that you?re someone who is concerned about, as well as responsible, when it comes to preventing what could be terrible consequences of surfing the internet.

Unfortunately, as with most things?the brilliance of the internet and all that it provides us also has its downside, and that downside could be any number of things?

  • Viruses and Malware that can wipe out your computer files, precious pics, music and video downloads, and important documents?
  • Hackers that lay-in-wait for the tiniest opening and weakness in your computer?s protection so that they can steal your important usernames, passwords, and ultimately your identity?
  • Online Predators who are looking to badly influence your kids, and still their innocence from them in many ways.

The great thing is that all of these things can be stifled before they even get to you, if you?ve got the right internet security.

Is AVG Good Enough to Protect You From These Threats?

In a nutshell?YES!

AVG will protect you from the threats listed above. And the fact is that they do a great job of it to boot.

Let?s talk about?

Virus Protection?

It?s very likely that the first thing that you think of when thinking about protecting your computer is to protect it from viruses, spyware, or malware.? These can infect your computer from many different angles.

Emails, websites, social media, music, videos, etc? All of these things can have a virus just waiting to infect you computer, destroy it, or collect very sensitive information that you?ve got on file.? These viruses can be very smart and can literally trick your computer into thinking that everything is working smoothly, when in reality it?s creating havoc on both your hard drive as well as subsequently your life.

AVG started out as a free anti-virus application, and since 2006 has added a multitude of features which has made into one of the most coveted internet protection suite?s available online.

AVG protects your computer from every different direction in which a virus is liable to come at you.

AVG Internet Security to Increase Your Speed?

Usually people complain about internet security suites reducing the speed of their computer and interrupting their surfing.

But that actually gets turned around when you install AVG. Instead, this internet protection software literally speeds up your computer.

How does it do that? It accelerates the downloading of files which are content rich. AVG gives you faster system startup, as well as support for Flash and HD video, which allows you to enjoy online video such as YouTube at faster speeds than ever before on your computer.

Nothing is affected as far as slowing your speed down when you use AVG for internet security. Even gaming is fast and uninterrupted, so that you won?t have to do anything like turn off your firewall like many gamers do, even though it?s very dangerous.

Protecting Your Identity?

A rampant problem these days is identity theft. You hear about it all the time, in one way or another. It?s a terrible thing to have happen.? When bank accounts and savings get drained, or credit gets completely ruined, there?s nothing worse than trying to set the record straight again. It takes a lot of time, work, and patience.

With AVG, you have a nice level of protection due to a top of the line firewall that checks both incoming and outgoing attacks via malicious spyware and malware, as well a protecting you when banking or shopping online. It even guards your wireless connection for intruders who can get all sorts of information from your wireless connection.

What I Really Love About AVG Internet Security?

One thing I?m big on ? with any product ? is customer support.

When you need help, and you?re desperate for an answer, you want that answer right now. I don?t care if it?s 3am? you want to be able to talk with someone who knows how to fix your problem.

AVG has some of the best customer service in the business.

They?re customer service is 24/7, and their reps are extremely knowledgeable. So when you get a strange message or warning that you?ve never heard of, or you simply need help installing or updating your AVG internet security software, you can turn right to AVG and they?ll walk you through how to fix things.

This can be done either through telephone, email, or what I really love?a chat application. I love this because it makes things super fast, super easy, and super convenient.

Through the years I?ve used various internet security suites. Many have been great, and many have been duds.

The bad part about learning about internet security through trial and error is that when you?re wrong, terrible things can happen. When your internet security isn?t up to snuff, then things slip through the cracks and you end up losing all your information, or worse losing your identity to some thief.

It?s not worth it, and hopefully this AVG internet security review has shown you that AVG is at least worth checking out for yourself?and you can do so by clicking here now!
